gas tank! Yes, yes – I am referring to bio diesel (okay, maybe you had no idea). Today I went on a field trip to Asheville’s own Blue Ridge Biofuels and brought along my video camera. The manager, Scott Barnwell, gave me tour of the plant and explained the process of obtaining used cooking oil from restaurants and manufacturing biodiesel for heating homes and gassing up diesel cars. This cleaner-burning process of recycling for energy is so amazing! It’s actually at- or below-the-cost of pure petroleum-based diesel fuel and with winter coming, it’s a viable option to heat your home with. Check the Times-News on Sunday for the article and the video detailing the mega-involved process that goes into each gallon.
